King raised floor supports were called to face a demanding and prestigious challenge. The renovation of the covering of the Galleria di San Babila arcade envisaged, in addition to the restoration of glazed skylights, also the replacement of the old waterproofing and the laying of new paving on the adjacent terraces.
The new coating was laid on the walkable surface, restoring its protective functionality while providing a highly technical solution with great aesthetic value.
Over the 400 square metres of walkable terraces, characterized by a strong difference in height, irregularities and numerous protruding elements, the Sol Tecnica s.r.l. installers created an elegant raised flooring of 60x60 cm porcelain stoneware slabs with King Supports and a tilting base. In the face of such difficult conditions, for example, a height difference of over 4 cm in little more than a metre, King displayed great versatility.
The King Support Converter System technology allowed the use of the tension of the tilting base to counteract the height strong difference and yet achieve a level flooring. In this way, the King base rests completely level on the sloping ground, thus ensuring maximum stability of the entire system.
For this intervention, K2, K3 and K4 King Supports were used in series along rows of tiles to cancel the slope of the base and create a perfectly level walkable flooring. Thanks to the pre-incised base, it was also easy to manage the laying of the plates in limited space, for example close to edges created by protruding bodies (e.g. chimneys, skylights, low walls).
The installation proved to be quick and simple, with the numerous variables of the setting easily resolved by the technical features of the system. Advantageous measures such as pre-cuts under the base, flexible rubber tabs, simple base adjustment from fixed to self-levelling and millimetre screw adjustments facilitated the performance this complex work without the need for sophisticated tools or an extreme variety of accessories, compensators and auxiliary aids. Adjustment of the support can be performed using the King-Key to millimetre accuracy with the floor already laid, while tabs and base can be cut with a simple cutter.
